My 7.5 month old had a fever this morning of 102. He also had several small red spots on his head and a few on his arm. I took him to the doctor and she didn%26#039;t know what the spots were but told me to keep an eye on them. What would cause these? Is it just a normal cold or does he have the chicken pox or something else?|||Listen...it could be measles..anything..but if I were you I would not risk it and would take him to hopital...MANY doctors have missed cases of meningitis....they are not perfect...and they can get it wrong...meningitis has a beggining which is like a cold..runny nose and all...but so does measles....and neither are good for babies obviously...just take him along.|||i would say sweat rash from the fever, or an allergic reaction that coincidently is happening at the same time as a cold......chicken pox can be spotted from a mile away, so if she said it%26#039;s not that then it%26#039;s not. they look like little puss filled zits and then scab over.....i would just be concerned if the symptoms don%26#039;t go away or if anything gets worse|||Maybe an allergy to something he ate or some kind of lotion or whatnot. Have you used anything diffrent on him, or fed him something new?
or think back the past 2 weeks, has he been around alot of ppl, do you know if any of them might have had the chicken pox? If he still has this tomorrow I would take him back in to the DR. Poor lil guy , hope he gets better.
|||Sounds a lot like the chicken pox to me. But I would think your doctor would be able to spot those if they were. I would look up side effects of chicken pox and compare them to what he has, that should help you distinguish between the two a little maybe. ||| It could possibly Roseola. I would take him to the doctor.
http://www.medicinenet.com/roseola/artic鈥?/a>|||it could be a viral infection. As my little girl had the same symptoms at 4 months old. The hospital told me just to keep her cool and give her calpol to reduce her tempature.|||could be what they call hand foot and mouth. |||chicken pox or strep throat. it sounds like strep throat (scarlet fever if it is accompianied by a rash) if it is a rash. if it is literal %26quot;spots%26quot; then it sounds more like chicken pox.
if it is strep throat, thats why she has no appetite, her throat hurts. try giving her a popcicle, it might numb her throat a little, and make it feel good.
if they are %26quot;spots%26quot; go get some tylenol %26amp; ibuprofen and alternate every 4 hours to keep her fever down, with some cool rags %26amp; baths. sit back and wait. the fever should be gone in 3 days.then the spots stick around for about 1-2 weeks, but once her fever is gone, spots may come %26amp; go, but she shouldn%26#039;t feel too bad.
if it is a rash-i would call your doctor back and request a strep test. it takes 2 seconds, they swab the back of the throat. they will give her an antibiotic for it, and you can alternate tylenol and ibuprofen every 4 hours, with popsicles and cool baths. you can alos lower a high fever with rubbing alcohol applied to the bottoms of her feet and armpits with a cotton ball. that worked with my kids when nothing else did. good luck, and if her temp reaches 103 i would get her to the hospital also.
btw-if you let strep throat go, it can cause scarring on the brain, if no antibiotics are given. this won%26#039;t make her handicapped or anything but it can cause headaches later in life. i have headaches and my mri said that i have scarring due to childhood illness of untreated strep throat.
