Is it true that a crocodile/alligator skin is a bullet proof?

I mean even you shot it at the back with a Magnum or a Desert Eagle it won%26#039;t go through the body?|||No, from personal experience, ive seen many ppl shoot and kill alligators, it does take a powerful gun, a small caliber such as an .22 will not get the job done.........So yes and No........A .22 from 100 yards away want penetrate, while a .45 glock, point blank, will put a hole in its back......|||Absolutely 100-percent NOT true. Crocodylians are killed by gunfire all the time.

But - all crocodylians have bony plates (osteoderms) in the skin, especially on the back and, in some species, the belly. This would slow a bullet down more than skin alone, probably limiting the damage made by a bullet.

A more significant impediment would be on the legal side - just shooting an alligator or crocodile in most parts of the world would be illegal without a permit or license of some sort.|||Nope, not bullet proof, BUT...

Bullets and water and alligator backs and heads do funny things. Ricochets do happen, and alligators can and do live through some nasty wounds caused by gunshots. I saw one that had the entire back corner of it%26#039;s head missing and healed over... he swam kinda lopsided, but otherwise was alright... guy had shot it the year before and it went off somewhere and hid and healed up. There%26#039;s also not a lot of fatal shots on a gator. A well placed .22 at point blank will indeed kill a gator if it%26#039;s not too big, but I%26#039;ve also seen where 12 gauge slugs have flattened out to fender washers on a big one%26#039;s head. A body shot isn%26#039;t only going to take forever to kill one, but it will also ruin the hide and meat depending on what organs are hit.

THE main concern however, is the lethal range of your bullet and where that bullet is going to go when fired if it misses/ricochets off the water or the gator%26#039;s head or back, or if fired from point blank range where the schrapnel is going to go. (most likely back in your face, and that%26#039;s not just bullet fragments, it%26#039;s bone as well)

But, seeing as it%26#039;s illegal for the average joe schmoe off the street to shoot a gator or a croc....|||Yes, completely bullet proof. It%26#039;s a little known fact (and cleverly hidden by the Government) that early bullet proof vests were made of Alligator skin. The only reason production ceased, was because Alligators nearly became extinct with so many vests being produced. Now the only thing made out of Gator skin are shoes, since Teflon won%26#039;t work for shoes.|||It is not 100% bullet proof but it is so thic and zigzag which protects it from bullets. But still bullet will make some damage to it. I think it will hurt the crocodile but it will not kill it at once.

More than one bullets will kill it, definately|||Probaly not all the way through but it would definitely damage there skin because crocidles and alligators both get cuts and I think that signafies that a bullet would definitely damage it.|||No. As attested to by the thousands of gators and crocs that%26#039;ve been shot with smaller weapons than the two you mentioned and snuffed it.|||It will go through, but the skin is so thick that the bullet will slow down and cause less damage. Well atleast I think this is what happens ha|||course not!

if that was true then how would u kill one that is attacking u

and if that was true then u wouldnt even be able to cut it with a knife which i know ppl doing that|||no, nothing is really bullet proof, the only thing close to it is dragon skin.|||Depends on the round. I dont screw around. Ill just bluck him with my 12-gauge buck-shot.|||why is somebody tryin to sell you something? that is w/out a dought the dummest thing i %26#039;ve heard today,no no no|||haha..are you serious.

No....they aren%26#039;t bulletproof.|||Probably for very small caliber bullets (like a .22).|||no crocodile / alligator or any animals skin is bullet proof.|||From where you get such information? Its not true.|||well Ive never seen a pair of shoes or a handbag with a hole in it.so i guess you could be correct.:OP :O))) LOL|||I don%26#039;t think its true. But I wouldn%26#039;t know. Go look it up.|||How do you think they kill them when hunted? They are shot.|||no dont believe that kind of crap...all animals can die in a gun shot....and dont try to shoot them to make sure :]|||it will, my grandpa was a hunter and he shot one, used a rifle though|||go shoot a crocodile..if it dies, theres your answer|||No!|||i dont think thats true|||no its not true...|||no.|||yes|||no|||no|||i don%26#039;t think so.|||i doubt it
