My cocker spaniel has badly matted hair on the back of his legs, tight to his skin. How do I remove them safely?
I have cut large portions of the matted hair with scissors, but there is still some very thick matting up tight to his skin!!|||Get a good pair of clippers....something like a wahl KM-2 or Oster A-5....none of these cheapie walmart things. Probably a 15 blade would do it.....shave them out. Mats are hard on the blades too, will dull them quickly, so it%26#039;s a good idea to do more thorough grooming in the future so he doesn%26#039;t get in this condition again.|||take him to a groomer.. he will need to have the hair clippered. Its not sade to use scissors.. the skin could be twisted in the hair and you could easily cut him.|||Hair mats need removing with special animal clippers. Don%26#039;t use scissors as it is very easy to cut the skin. Contact a dog groomer or ring a vet if you think he will need sedation.
