Can the acid in our stomachs burn our skin?

I%26#039;m curious to see if the hydrochloric acid or whatever it is called, if exposed to our skin on the outside could actually burn us. I thought it kind of ironic how what%26#039;s inside us can have the capability to seriously harm us.|||It could indeed. The reason why the stomach doesn%26#039;t dissolve itself is that a mucus layer protects the stomach lining, and this is much more acid-resistant than the tissue itself. However, although it dissolves slowly, it does dissolve, and must be periodically replaced. Cells in the stomach lining, understandably, multiply quickly to replace lost ones.

Interestingly enough, though, the hydrochloric acid in stomach acid is at a concentration of about 0.1 M. If you dilute reagent grade HCl to 0.1 M and dip your finger into it, it shouldn%26#039;t hurt (unless you have an open wound in which case it will hurt like crazy, or your skin is sensitive). At this level of dilution, it is referred to as an %26quot;irritant%26quot;, not %26quot;corrosive%26quot;. However, stomach fluids contain enzymes in addition to the acid, and these enzymes are particularly good at breaking down proteins to short peptide chains.|||Yes, it can. You%26#039;re right it is called Hydrochloric Acid.

Hydrochloric acid is around a pH 1 - 2, which means it%26#039;s a very strong acid.

If your stomach had no mucas lining it, there would basically be a big hole in your stomach and gradually corrode anything else in it%26#039;s way.|||yes, when pepsin is released in our tummies

hydrochloric acid is produced. this creates a ph level of 2. which does burn your skin which has a neutral ph level of 7. the reason why when you throw up your esophagus doesn%26#039;t dissolve is because the lining of the esophagus is basic and brings the vomit to become neutral as well. so yeah, bio is cool|||Yes It can . The acid produced in stomach is hydrochloric acid, one of the strongest acids. However it does not hurts our stomach because of a substance called mucus, Mucus is produced along with hcl and its main work is to protect our stomach.|||Probably, hydrochloric acid is dangerous|||If your stomach leaks it kills you. When you puke, you get a sore throat, and that is the acid.|||yes it can burn your skin if it burn through metal then it can burn your skin.|||it could be because the gastric acid in our stomach could be strong and if it is strong it could burn a skin|||Yes, it can and I wouldn%26#039;t recommend trying it. The reason it doesn%26#039;t burn through is the stomach lining.|||People you throw up their food usually have teeth and throat problems.|||If it can burn a razor%26#039;s blade then why not the skin?|||it can burn you and if it leaks out it kills you|||Maybe not, but my farts can burn your nose. Sorry, couldn%26#039;t resist.|||yes. because acid itself has a low ph....|||If its possible, it can...|||If you drink alot of soda and other gassy|||Yes

|||yes|||no|||yes|||yes sir ,

it burns.......
